ABOUT TEAM OFP
Real people working to erase real debt and restore financial dignity.

OUR STORY
Overdue Freedom Project began with a simple, necessary idea: the debt system is broken, but it can be interrupted. Families across the country are burdened by old balances that will never realistically be paid, yet those same debts are still traded, resold, and used to pressure people who are already struggling. Team OFP steps into that cycle with a completely different purpose. Instead of letting large collection companies buy this debt and chase it for profit, we purchase it at the same discounted rates and remove it from the system entirely. What started as a small effort has evolved into a mission rooted in service, dignity, and a commitment to helping people breathe again.

OUR MISSION
Our mission is to intercept distressed consumer debt before it falls back into the hands of aggressive collectors. We purchase portfolios at deep discounts, permanently retire the balances, and notify the individuals that they are finally free from those accounts. We never collect, negotiate, or ask for repayment. The only goal is to transform every dollar of donor support into as much eliminated debt as possible so more families can move forward with confidence and peace of mind.
HOW TEAM OFP TURNS DONATIONS INTO FREEDOM
Buy
WE BUY DEBT
We acquire portfolios of charged-off consumer debt at a small fraction of their original value, using the same financial pathways that large collection companies rely on. These portfolios often contain thousands of accounts that have been sold and resold across the industry, sometimes for years, creating constant stress for the people whose names remain attached to them. When we purchase a portfolio, everything about its purpose changes. Instead of trying to recover money or pressure anyone into payment, we treat the debt as something that should finally come to an end. Our team begins the formal process of retiring each account so it cannot be sold again or used to intimidate the individuals involved. This is where donor support becomes incredibly powerful. Because distressed debt is available for such a small percentage of its face value, every dollar we raise allows us to eliminate significantly more in outstanding balances. A modest contribution can translate into thousands of dollars in relief, giving families a real chance to move forward without the weight of old debt holding them back.
Forgive
WE FORGIVE THE DEBT COMPLETELY
Once the portfolio is in our hands, the collection cycle comes to an immediate end. The debt can no longer be chased, resold, or used as leverage against the people who have already endured years of pressure and uncertainty. Our team begins the detailed process of retiring each account within the portfolio, verifying balances, confirming ownership, and completing the steps required to ensure that the debt is formally taken out of circulation. When we forgive a debt, we remove the possibility that it will ever return in another form or under another company, which is a common experience for people whose accounts have been passed around the industry. The goal is not temporary relief but lasting closure. Many individuals have lived with the fear of calls, letters, or damage to their financial future, even when they had no realistic way to resolve what they owed. By eliminating the debt entirely, we give them a clean break from a burden that has followed them far too long. This finality is central to our mission because true forgiveness means giving people the freedom to move forward without worrying that this part of their past will reappear.
Receive
RECIPIENTS PAY IT FORWARD
We never ask or expect the people we help to repay us. Debt forgiveness from Overdue Freedom Project is a gift with no conditions attached. At the same time, we believe in the power of community and in the idea that relief often inspires generosity. That is why we invite recipients to help someone else when life allows. Many people who receive forgiveness eventually choose to contribute, not because they have to, but because they understand the weight that has been lifted from them. Even a small donation can help us purchase the next batch of debt, since we buy portfolios at a fraction of their original value. A few dollars from a grateful recipient can translate into hundreds or even thousands of dollars in eliminated debt for someone else. Over time, this creates a growing chain of compassion, where the people who once felt trapped by old balances become part of freeing others from the same burden. It builds a culture of support rooted in empathy rather than obligation, and it turns relief into a shared movement that strengthens with every person who decides to pay it forward.

WHY IT WORKS
Our approach succeeds because it uses the debt industry’s own structure to deliver relief instead of pressure. Debt that is years old often sells for only pennies on the dollar. Large collectors buy these portfolios to squeeze out whatever they can. We take the same entry point, but with a completely different intention. Instead of collecting, we erase the debt. Every donation stretches far because it meets debt at its lowest cost. The result is an approach that is financially efficient, emotionally powerful, and life-changing for the people we help. Donors see massive impact for their giving, and recipients experience a level of relief that is hard to calculate.
OUR VALUES
EFFECIENCY
Efficiency is at the heart of everything we do because the people we serve deserve more than temporary help or surface-level relief. They deserve a model that stretches every dollar to its highest possible impact. At Overdue Freedom Project, we use donor support to purchase portfolios of charged-off consumer debt for a small fraction of its original value. This gives us the ability to eliminate large amounts of debt using far fewer resources than the face value would suggest. Even modest contributions can create meaningful change because the economics of the debt industry allow us to intervene at the point where debt is cheapest and most vulnerable. Instead of relying on large budgets or complex fundraising targets, we focus on precision and strategy. We target debt that is poised to be sold to collectors and buy it before it can re-enter the cycle of harassment and pressure. Every dollar contributes directly to the removal of real debt connected to real people. Our approach minimizes overhead, cuts out unnecessary steps, and keeps our mission sharply focused on forgiveness rather than administrative complexity. This commitment to efficiency ensures that donors know their money is making a measurable difference. It also ensures that individuals burdened by old balances receive relief at a scale that would be impossible through traditional financial assistance programs. By taking advantage of how the secondary debt market works, we turn efficiency into freedom for the people who need it most.
ETHICAL
Ethics guide every decision we make, from the moment we identify a debt portfolio to the moment we notify individuals that their burdens have been removed. The debt-buying industry is often known for practices that rely on pressure, intimidation, and persistent collection efforts. Many people experience aggressive calls, threatening letters, and attempts to collect money they do not have. Overdue Freedom Project takes an entirely different approach. We do not participate in harassment or intimidation under any circumstances. Once we purchase a debt portfolio, we retire it completely and permanently. There is no effort to collect a single dollar from the people listed in the accounts. Our purpose is to eliminate debt, not profit from it. We believe that compassion and fairness should guide financial systems, and we are committed to operating in a way that reflects dignity and respect. This means clear communication, no hidden motives, and no pressure. It also means honoring the humanity of the people we help, who often carry emotional burdens connected to years of financial uncertainty. Our ethical commitment extends to donors as well. We ensure that contributions are used responsibly, directed toward forgiveness rather than administrative overhead or unnecessary expenses. By maintaining strict ethical standards in every part of the process, we protect the trust placed in us and demonstrate that there is a better, more humane way to address consumer debt.
TRANSPARENT
Transparency is essential to the way we operate because trust is the foundation of any mission-driven organization. People deserve to understand how their donations are used, how debt is purchased, and what happens after a portfolio enters our system. At Overdue Freedom Project, we make the process clear and accessible. We explain in plain language how debt portfolios are acquired at discounted rates and how we permanently remove them from circulation once they are in our hands. There is no secret strategy or hidden financial structure. Everything we do is rooted in openness so donors and recipients always know exactly what to expect. We provide straightforward explanations of each step: how we choose portfolios, how we verify accounts, how forgiveness is documented, and how individuals are notified that their debt has been retired. This commitment to clarity allows people to trust the impact of their contributions without confusion or uncertainty. It also protects recipients from the fear that the debt will reappear elsewhere, which is a common issue when accounts are passed between collection companies. By maintaining full transparency in our operations, communications, and financial practices, we ensure that our mission remains credible, accountable, and grounded in truth. This approach reinforces the integrity of the organization and empowers people to feel confident in the work we are doing together.
COMMUNITY DRIVEN
Community is at the center of Overdue Freedom Project because we believe that people are strongest when they support one another. Debt often isolates individuals, creating shame, fear, and the sense that they must face their struggles alone. Our model works to reverse that experience by building a cycle of relief and generosity. When someone receives a notification that their debt has been forgiven, they often feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude, not just for the financial relief but for the kindness behind it. We never ask them to repay us. Forgiveness is a gift with no conditions attached. At the same time, many recipients feel inspired to help someone else when their own situation allows. Even a small donation can help us purchase and eliminate the next batch of debt, creating a powerful ripple effect. This process transforms recipients into participants, connecting them to a larger mission built on care rather than obligation. It also shows that financial freedom is not just a personal victory but a community achievement made possible by people looking out for one another. Over time, this shared commitment builds strength, unity, and momentum. Each act of paying it forward reinforces the belief that everyone deserves a fair chance to rebuild their lives. By fostering this community-driven cycle, we turn relief into a growing movement rooted in empathy, generosity, and the belief that no one should face financial hardship alone.
